OBITUARIES Daily Record, Morris County, N.J., Thursday, April 17, 2008 A11 Robert C. Bird husband, father, veteran WHARTON Robert C. Bird passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2008. at Compassionate Care Hospice at Saint Clare's Hospital in Dover. He was 75.

He was a lifelong resident of Roxbury Township. Mr. Bird was born in Morristown. He attended Sunday: school in his younger years at The Methodist Church in Berkshire Valley. He was a past member of Grace the Church on the Mount in Netcong.

He served in the Navy in the Korean War. He was a business owner at Budd Lake Buster Brown. He retired in 1995, after more than 30 years. He was a draftsman and land surveyor for various companies, including Vorst Serino in Succasunna, 0. Thomas Delala in Denville and Picatinny before his Arsenal, Rockaway, of Twp.

He was a member of Roxbury Chemical Engine for 53 years; Treasurer of the company and Lower Berkshire Valley Firemen's Association for 40 1 years; Garden State Post Card Club Morris Canal Society, and Roxbury Historical Society. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Kathleen (Casey); and is also survived by his two daughters, Susan Cote and husband, Jerry of Rockaway and Karen Garrison and husband, Patrick of Hopatcong; and his two grandchildren, Ryan and Emily Garrison. 07885; or American Cancer Society Eastern Division, Attn: Memorial Processing Center, 6725 Lyons P.O. Box 7, East Syracuse, N.Y. 13057. Nancy Ann Barnes 77, longtime Mendham resident MT. ARLINGTON Nancy Ann Barnes died suddenly on Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at Morristown Memorial Hospital.

She was 77. Born in Hempstead, N.Y., she lived in Mendham, for 53 years before moving to Mt. Arlington, in 2006. Mrs. Barnes was a homemaker.

She was a founding member and past president of the Mendham Borough Fire Department's Ladies Auxiliary. Her family will remember her as a loving wife, mother and grandmother, whose greatest joy was spending time with her family. Her brother, Francis Loonam; her sister, Dorothy; and her granddaughter, Tracy Leigh (Burrini) Ranucci died previously. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Earl Barnes Jr. of Mt.

Arlington; six daughters, Christine Day and her husband, Greg, of Hackettstown, Jacquelyn Burrini and her husband, John, of Randolph, Marianne Hubbert of Blue Bell, Nancy Morales and her husband, Richard, of Flanders, Kimberly Swentkowski and her husband, Robert, of Bensalem, Susan Ireland and her husband, Cory, of Landing; and one son, Earl Barnes III and his wife, Marianne, of Long Valley. She is also survived by her 23 grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Visitation will be held at St. Luke's Church, West Mill Road, Long Valley, on Friday, from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, at 11 a.m. in the Church. Interment is to follow at the Mendham Hilltop Cemetery. For those desiring, donations may be made in her memory to the St. Jude's Children's research hospital.

Arrangements are by the Bailey Funeral Home of Mendham, (973) 543-4720. Donald L. Carey 73, beloved husband, father, grandfather BOONTON Donald L. Carey, surrounded by his family, died peacefully on Tuesday evening, April 15, 2008. He was 73.

Born in Morristown, he was a lifelong resident of Boonton. Prior to his retirement in 1991, he was employed for 37 years as an administrator of regulatory affairs at Co. in Morristown. He was a member and past Grand Knight of the Walter J. Barrett Council No.

1954, K. of C. in Boonton, an avid Yankees fan and a man who thoroughly enjoyed travel. He was predeceased by his parents, Daniel and Mary (Downey) Carey, as well as his brothers, Lawrence and Richard Carey. He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Barbara J.

(Wynn) Carey; his daughter Susan M. Carey of Boonton; his sons Donald A. and his wife, Audrey, of Fredon and John T. and his wife, Jean, of Morris Plains; his brother Robert and sisters Jean Wardmansky and Marion Palazzo, all of Boonton; his grandchildren, Donnie, Dana, John, Christopher and Timothy Carey, Jennifer, Craig and Kimberly Stickles; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services from Lewis Carey Directors of Funerals will be on Saturday morning, April 19, at 10 a.m.; then to Our Lady of Mt.

or the American Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. George L. Villani 64, husband, father, veteran NEWTON George L. Villani died on Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at Newton Memorial Hospital.

He was 64. Born in The Bronx, Mr. Villani grew up in Dumont, and has lived in Newton, for the past 21 years. He was a 1961 graduate of Dumont High School, where he received two varsity letters for football, served as co-captain of the team in 1960, and made the second team All-County football (Bergen County) in 1960. He attended Lafayette College in Easton, where he also received a varsity letter in football.

A 1976, graduate from University College (Rutgers) in Newark, Mr. Villani graduated with a BA in Economics and was named to the Dean's List for four semesters. Mr. Villani served in the Army from June 1966, with one year of combat duty in Vietnam, and was honorably discharged in June 1968. He was the recipient of the Army Commendation Medal with Device, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Combat Infantryman's Badge (CIB).

Mr. Villani was the Directorate of Logistics at Picatinny Arsenal before his retirement in 2003. A life member and past commander of VFW Post 8441 in Vernon, he was an avid golfer and bowler. The son of the late Olympio L. and Louise Truppi Villani, Mr.

Villani is survived by his wife, Eve Lynn Shauger Villani; one son, Charles Howard Villani; one brother, Vincent F. Villani of Fernandina Beach, his stepmother, Jenny Villani of Port Richie, two nephews; and one niece. VFW Services will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Newton. Visitation will be held on Saturday, from 2 to 4:30 p.m.

Smith passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2008, at Saint Clare's Hospital in Dover, following a long illness. He was 88. He was a resident of Randolph since 1949, having moved here from Morristown.

Mr. Smith was born in Morristown. He worked as an auto mechanic at N.J. State Police in Morristown. He retired in 1976, after 35 years.

He also worked as a security guard at Dover General Hospital and at Hamilton Farms in Denville. He was predeceased by his wife, Miriam, in 1995. He is survived by his three sons, John C. of Albuquerque, N.M., James B. of Succasunna, and Michael J.

of Bedford, and his two daughters, Mary Ellen Nielson of Lake Hopatcong and Jo Ann M. Smith of Randolph. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, Tina, Dean, Amanda, Jo Ellen, Cindy, Jennifer, Johnny, Kenny, Darryl, Jason and Alicia. Funeral Services will be held at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 Route 10, Randolph, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 19.

Margaret V. 'Dolly' Dever 99, -grandmother MORRISTOWN Margaret V. "Dolly" Dever passed away on Monday, April 7, 2008, at Holly Manor Nursing Home in Mendham. She was 99. Born in Newark, she lived in Morristown for 45 years.

She was a banker for 50 years, beginning her career in 1927, at the Federal Reserve in New York City, N.Y. She retired in 1972, from the National Newark Essex Bank. She was a member of the Zonta International and the American Banking Association. She is predeceased by her husband, John A. Dever Sr.

She is survived by her son, John A. Dever and his wife, Winifred, of Flanders. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Kelly Giammanco of Flanders; and two greatgrandsons, Anthony and James. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at the Church of the Assumption in Morristown, on Monday, at 9:30 a.m. Interment is in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover.

Hours of visitation at the Doyle Funeral Home, 106 Maple Morristown, are on Sunday, from 2 to 5 p.m. Barbara Duffy Ayres 77, mother, grandmother HAMDEN, Conn. Barbara Duffy Ayres died Sunday, April 13, 2008, at her longtime home in Hamden, following a brief illness. She was 77. Mrs.

Ayres was born in Morristown on Oct. 31, 1930, to the late Edward F. and Joseph Scanlon Duffy. She graduated from St. Elizabeth's Academy in Convent Station.

She was married at St. Margaret's Church in Morristown to Arthur J. Ayres III, who survives her after 57 years of marriage. Mrs. Ayres also is survived by her brother, Edward Duffy (Joan) Morris Plains, and her sister, Elinor "Mick" McHale (Edward) of Gainesville, Va.

She was predeceased by her sister and brother Ruth and Lloyd Gallagher of Denville. Mrs. Ayres was the mother of four children, Arthur Glenn Ayres (Jane) of Chelmsford, Kenneth J. Ayres (Elaine) of Rockville, Thomas W. Ayres of Bossier City, and Patricia A.

'DJ' Jackowski Dorothy Barber 56, loved to share knowledge ROCKAWAY TWP. Donald "DJ" Jackowski died Monday, April 14, 2008, at St.

Clare's He was 56. He was born in Dover, grew up in Whippany, and Denville, and was a resident of Rockaway Township since 1989. He was a graduate of Whippany Park High School, class of 1970. He was the co-owner and operator of Denville Transmission since founding it in 1981, and an expert diagnostician of mechanical problems. He was a member of the Rock away Township Sportsmen, and he enjoyed building and hunting with Revolutionary era rifles.

He was a nationally renowned expert specialist in building Ford Flathead engines for drag racing; two of his cars are among the quickest in the world for the type of engine. He also enjoyed classic cars and motorcycles, including his 1957 Harley-Davidson and red 1934 Ford Coupe commonlyse seen around town. He loved to share his knowledge of cars and engines through the Internet and on the phone, always willing to talk out a problem with anyone in need. He loved learning anything and everything, reading as much as he possibly could. He was a collector of World War II memorabilia, as well as general Americana.

He never met a tool that he didn't like. His brother, Ted Jackowski, predeceased him in 1985. His wife, Karen Comiskey Jackowski of Rockaway Township; his children, April Santangelo and her husband, John of West Milford, Zachary Jackowski of Cambridge, and Cory Anne Jackowski of Rockaway Township; his grandchildren, Jake, Ashley, and Tyler; his father, Theodore Jackowski of Whippany; his sister, Karen Dobbins of Randolph; as well as his two loving dogs, Bean and Lucky, survive him. Maria "Mary" O'Melia died on Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Clare's Hospital in Dover. She was 87. Born and raised in Newark, she moved to Rockaway Township 1966. Mrs.

O'Melia was a cook for the Rockaway Township, schools for 15 years, before retiring in 1988. She was a longtime member of the Rockaway Township, Senior Citizens club, and also a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Newark. She was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence, in 1985. She is survived by her son, Norman; her daughter, Laurette O'Melia-Pegraza; and five grandchildren, Meghan, Sean and Michael O'Melia, and Gabriel and Isabela Pegraza. Jane Nash Steinetz 73, active with church PARSIPPANY Dorothy "Dot" Barber died Thursday, April 10, 2008, at home. She was 73.

Born in York, S.C., she moved to Morristown, N.J. at an early age, and worked for many years as a dietician at Morristown Memorial Hospital. She moved to California in the mid-'80s a and worked as a dietician at Peninsula Hospital for 10 years. She returned to New Jersey in the mid-'90s, and settled in Parsippany, where she worked for Wilkerson Transportation until her passing. Ms.

Barber was an active, longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church in Morristown. She served faithfully on the usher board. She was also an avid Bingo player. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Linda Barber of Parsippany; her sister and best friend, Della Mae Artis, and brother-in-law, George Denny, of Morristown; her brother, Nathaniel Barber, and sister-in-law, Patricia, of Burlingame, her beloved friend, George Taylor of Madison, N.J.; an uncle, Marshall Barber of Morristown; a niece, Yolanda (and husband, Darrell) Brown of Parsippany; nieces Natalie and Noree Barber of Burlingame, a nephew, Aaron (and wife, Sharon) Barber of Seattle, three great-nephews; and a host of loving family and friends. "Dick" Smith was received in heaven on April 13, 2008, after a long illness. He was 84. He had previously lived in the Lake Telemark section of Rockaway Township, for 45 years prior to his retirement to Florida 20 years ago. Richard Smith served in the Army Air Corps and was a pilot during World War II. Richard loved to sail boats and play golf.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Marjorie I. Smith of West Melbourne, and his six children, Carole Tucciarelli of Athens, N.Y., Kathy Ross of Rockledge, Debbie Liberatore of Milton, Richard H. Smith, III of Reading, Charles W. Smith of Nazareth, and Ralph E. Smith of Parsippany.

Juan Lorenzo-Perez 79, great -grandfather PUERTO RICO Juan Lorenzo-Perez died on Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Clare's in Dover.

He was 79. He was born in Aguada, Puerto Rico, and was a retired engineer who worked for many years with the government of Puerto Rico. He was predeceased by his son Eddy in 2005. He is survived by his wife, Maria; five sons, Hector Lorenzo of Wharton, Juan Lorenzo of Florida, Jose Lorenzo of Puerto Rico, Antonio Lorenzo of Pennsylvania, and Carlos Lorenzo of Succasunna; a daughter, Maria Lorenzo of Pennsylvania; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She, was 80. Born Jane Rutledge Nash on May 18, 1927, she grew up in Caldwell. In 1947, she met the love of her life, Bern Steinetz, and they were married in 1949. They made their home inMountain Lakes, where they raised their three children. Jane dearly loved Mountain Lakes and enjoyed her life there.

She and her husband subsequently moved to Franklin Lakes, where they lived happily for 30 years. Known for her sense of humor and big laugh, she is also remembered for her generosity toward those who needed a warm bed, hot meal, or some motherly love and advice. She is survived by her husband, Bern; and her son daughter-in-law, Scott and Lynn Steinetz of Sparta, and their three children, Carly, Tyler and Chad. She is also' survived by her daughter, Ann, and son-in-law, Clifford Barton, of Mountain Lakes, and their three children, Scott, Barbara and Tessa. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 19, at 2 p.m.

Arrangements are by Mackey Funeral Home, 107 Essex Boonton. Mark Ashman 59, active Freemason with N.J. De Molay CRANBERRY PA. Mark Ashman died on Monday, April 14, 2008, at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He 59.

Born in Passaic, he resided in Landing for 20 years before moving to Cranberry six months ago. A 1974 graduate of Belleville High School and a 1978 graduate of Kean College, Mr. Ashman was employed as, the principle consultant for the EMI Corporation in Pittsburgh for the past 10 years. Previously, he was employed by the Berkley in Fairfield and Newark Trade Typographers in Orange. Mr.

Ashman is a member of Acacia Masonic Lodge No. 20 in Dover and Cincinnati Masonic Lodge No. 3 in Morristown, the Valley of Northern N.J. Scottish Rite in Lincoln Park, and the Salaam Shrine Center in Livingston. He began his Masonic affiliations as a member of Suburban Chapter Order of De Molay in Belleville and later became their master counselor.

Mr. Ashman is the recipient of De Molay's Chevalier, Legion of Honor, Guild of the Leather Apron and Advisor of the Year. Awards. He is a former director of advisor education for N.J. De Molay, the Keyman Conference and an advisor for KEH Chapter Order of De Molay in Dover.

Mr. Ashman is survived by his wife of 30 years, the former Nancy Lynn Jolly; by a son, Steven Ashman of Bloomfield; by a daughter, Denise Ashman of Cranberry Township, by his parents, Maurice and Catherine (Hamlett) Ashman of Montclair; by a sister, Patty Ingra of Hamilton; and by 10 nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, at St. John's Episcopal Church, corner of Passaic and Lafayette Avenues, Passaic, followed by burial at Cresthaven Memorial Park in Clifton.

Visiting hours will be on Saturday, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Allwood Funeral Home, 660-670 Allwood Road, Clifton with Masonic Services at 8 p.m. on Sunday. Memorial donations to the N.J.
