Daily Record, Morris County, N.J., Sunday, December 29, 1996 Search yields evidence in Christmas bombing BY DANA SCOTT Associated Press CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. State police were looking yesterday for the former owner of a home where they found several guns and explosives that could be connected to a Christmas Eve package bomb explosion. But state and federal authorities said they don't know who sent the bomb, which exploded in the face of 10-year-old Jordan. Reardon of Clifton Park, about 15 miles north of Albany. The girl is recovering from burns over 27 percent of body at Westchester County Medical Center in Valhalla.

Authorities are investigating a possible link between of former home owner Henry Crobok and the Reardons. Crobok's son worked with Jordan's mother, Mary, state police Maj. Peter Lawrence told a news conference yesterday. "Right now, we are looking at a case that has some similarities, but then again, maybe two separate, distinct cases," state police Bureau of Criminal Investigations Investigator Jeffry Hines said. Both Jordan and her parents are under state police protection, though Lawrence said he does not expect another bombing.

"She is in good condition, and is recovering both physically and emotionally," Lawrence said of Jordan. The new owner, Charles Schwartz, found a live pipe bomb in the garage and brought it to police on Christmas Eve. On Friday, federal and state authorities found several rifles, some with scopes, equipment for handling explosives and at least 30 pounds of gunpowder during a search of the house in Troy, northeast of Albany.

Lawrence would not comment on whether or not Crobok had a criminal record or if the guns found in the garage were registered to him. A search of the garage and home yesterday morning revealed another live pipe bomb, police said. Analysis of the Clifton Park bomb at a Rockville, lab has already yielded several new clues, which are being investigated. "We've already gotten leads back, and I suspect there will be more," said Walter Bleyman, a federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agent. Authorities would not comment on whether the bomb was mailed to the Reardon home or left in the mailbox.

"It's always part of the investigation, to speak to postal employees and see what they may or may not know about it," Postal Inspector Terry Loftus said.
