Inez Sisco said the family wanted to trace the origins of a distant relative, John N. Sisco, nicknamed "Fighting John Sisco." Historical documents show Fighting John was a drummer boy who walked 20 miles to enlist in the Revolutionary War, Inez Sisco said.

"They all look alike," marvelled Evelyn Beet Sisco of Wharton, who married into the Sisco clan. "They all look like my father-in-law." She said the Siscos are generally stocky and "they all have the same smile and with good teeth." Her daughter, Sandy Sisco Berta of Dover, said she traded stories other Siscos about her grand father, Benjamin, who changed his surname to Riker because he was a bootlegger. "We spent the day getting to know who we were and who our grandparents were and where we came from," said Berta, using her married name. While she thought she inherited Dutch blood from her Sisco father, Berta learned the Siscos now believe they descended from the Huguenots, French Protestants of the 16th and 17th century. The family also thinks the name might actually have been shortened from Francisco.

Those at the gathering concluded the Siscos of yore were hard-working, and were mostly farmers and masons.
