Daily KeCOTd, HOTUmWH n.J., nouiroua), nana tw km Men's Softball Report Undefeated Mount Tabor Leads Mayor's Trophy week of the season. Thompsons, with the Kaminski brothers, Rob and Rich, providing a strong left-side of the infield, lead the American League with a 9-1 record. Their only defeat has been an 11-7 loss to DeMaios. Chasing the leaders are Johetd, Male Shop, and Neils New Yorker, but only top three teams will qualify for the playoffs. The key to which teams survive is head-to-had competition.

Johetd, with lead-off batter John Harper setting the table for heavy hitters Gary Pavlo-sky and Frank Bender, defeated Neil's New Yorker 10-9 on Opening Day. They will face Male Shop the next two Sundays. Despite three hits by shortstop Brian Sherry, Male Shop lost to Neil's 13-12 as Neils connected for five home runs, all by different players. John DiMaggio, Ron Stanton, and Bob Monica have led DeMaios Corner to a 9-1 start and first-place in the National League. But once again, threeteams, Bachs, Catanzaro, Lawn Doctor are fighting for the final two playoff births.

This week will play a major role in Bach's playoff drive as they face both Thompsons and -5e-Maios. Catanzaros, winners of three in a row, will meet Lawn Doctor a week from today. Recently, the Mayor' Trophy League has taken on the looks of a three-act play between the Mount Tabor and Rainbow Lakes Fire Departments. Acts I and II are the two regular season matchups and Act III usually decides the league title. Last season, Mount Tabor (District 1) ended the two-year hold Rainbow Lakes (District 2) owned on the championship, that haq only intensified the rivalry, which started over IS years ago.

The names Pete Doran, Fred Heider, Puss Grueter, Bill Ryan and company mean the same to Mount Tabor as Reggie Jackson, Willie Randolph, and Ron Guidry mean to the Red Sox. Mount Tabor won Act I recently, 6-2. The next encounter is slated for July 8, and whether there is a third match will depend on the rest of the league. The top four teams qualify for post-season play and the remaining two spots are up for grabs. Last week Parsippany Ambulance (1-4) stunned Rainbow Lakes, 7-5, which put the squad in a position to battle Rockaway Neck Ambulance and the fire companies in Districts 3 and 6.

The same situation exists in the Men's Slow-Pitch League. With the 19-game season half-complete, Thompsons and DeMaios Corner have proved to be the class of the league. But the battle for the other playoff positions won't be decided until the last Melanie Rudin, a senior at Parsippany High School, has won the grand prize in the American Association of University Women (Parsippany chapter) essay contest. Melanie, who lives at 30 Parkside Drive, won a $50 savings bond and a $25 savings account. Honorable mention at the Parsippany Hills High School went to Hart G.

Coven, a junior. Jill Susan Weiss, 3 Ferndale Drive, and Marsha Frances Kovarsky, 29 Farrand Drive, have been placed on the dean's list at the University of Delaware. Rick Schkolnick, president of the Parsippany High School student council where he is a junior, has been selected to attend the 44th annual National Conference of the National Association of Student Councils and Student Activity Advisors to be held June 22-26 at Aurora, Colo. Rick will be accompanied by student council advisor and student activities director, Gary Vittorio. Rick is the son of Mr.

and Mrs. Herman Schkolnick of Stephen Terrace. Denise Margaret Cheasty, daughter of Mary Ellen Cheasty, 32 St. John's Avenue, Mount Tabor, has received an A.B. degree from Duke University in Durham, N.C.

Robynlyn Umberto has been selected toy the faculty of the department of music of Wesley College, Dover, to receive a Lurty Music Scholarship for the academic year 1980-81. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul R. Umberto.
