Ilambunrrs now an apprentice learning to become an electrician, "Last year was amazing with all the seniors we had," Sabia said of last season's 5-4 team. "Those kids started as freshmen and worked all the way through." This year, however, seniors are at a premium. There are only four other seniors on the roster besides Kohn and McCluskey.

One reason is the nature of Sussex Vo-Tech. Most seniors are out in the work force and don't find the time to play football. For Kohn and McCluskey, playing for the Mustangs means a hectic schedule. "We play before we go to work," said Kohn, an offensive guard and defensive tackle, "But we get to do both (play football and learn a trade) here." Without an experienced team, Sabia and his staff will be looking toward the younger players to fill the senior void. Fighting for the quarterback position are sophomore Robert Quick, the freshman QB last season, and junior Bobby Smith, a newcomer to the football program.

"There are a lot of openings," said Aruary. "The players are still fighting, we're looking to develop a strong foundation. We hope to be very strong in two or three years." Although the coaches have determined this season to be one of rebuilding, the team still should be competitive since it has dropped out of the Sussex County Interscholastic League. "We designed our (independent) schedule to our calibre of play," said Sabia, "We want the kids to have fun." And when the season is over, Kohn and McCluskey will go back to baking and building. All part of life as Sussex Vo-Tech football players.

Instead, the two senior offensive linemen are concentrating on their long term future developing a skill for a career in the working world. Kohn wants to be a baker while McCluskey is training to become a mason; aftcrall, that's why they go to Sussex Vocational Technical school. Since learning a trade or craft is first priority here, football isn't a win-or-else situation as it may become elsewhere. "We go out there to have fun," said head coach Ray Sabia, entering his fourth year with the Mustangs. "We don't have the pressure other schools have." What the Mustangs do have is many unique problems other schools would never experience.

"Many of our kids have never played orginized football before," said Sabia. "If a kid played a lot of pee-wee football he'll go to a regular high school. "People have to realize many kids live on farms and have to help out with chores and may not have the time to devote to football." Transportation is also difficult as students reside in all parts of spacious Sussex County. "Everything up here is done by car," said Sabia. "We're not a neighborhood school," added Drew Aruary, Sa-bia's assistant coach and right-hand man.

"It's tough sometimes." With the loss of 14 seniors, the Mustangs have one problem other high schools can comprehend. Sussex Vo-Tech lost two mainstays in its offensive game running back Tommy Bautz and quarterback Mark DeLade. Bautz led the offensive show last year, rushing for 875 yards. DeLade, who passed for more than 400 yards in a run-oriented offense, is 4 Conveniently Located TV Screens For "Sports Channel" Viewing Promislnf newcomers: QB DB Booby Smith (b O. 1 10), Soph OB Rob Quick (5 10.
